What is RD Service?
"RD service" usually refers to Registered Device Service — a security protocol used in India for biometric devices (like fingerprint or iris scanners) to comply with UIDAI (Aadhaar) authentication standards.
- Purpose: It replaces the old "public device" mode, ensuring that biometric data is encrypted at the source and transmitted securely for Aadhaar authentication.
- Requirement: Devices must be RD Service–enabled to work with Aadhaar eKYC, AEPS, Jeevan Pramaan, PM Kisan, or similar platforms.
- Impact: If RD service is discontinued for your device (like Morpho, Mantra, or Startek), it will no longer work for Aadhaar-related tasks unless the manufacturer releases updated support.
